Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) – Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, a senior Shia cleric, received a group of Argentine Muslims in his office in the city of Qom, Iran on Wednesday, January 25.
During the meeting he stated, “In today’s world, people are getting tired of the mainstream materialistic views; this in turn accounts for the growing interest in Islam worldwide.”
The Shia source of emulation added, “It’s possible for us to promote Islam around the world by setting good examples and displaying the merit of Islam as a peaceful religion by our actions and behavior. Islam has been rapidly growing in southeast Asia, that’s not due to sending religious missionaries and their promotional activities, rather it’s because some Muslim merchants travelled there and did business according to Islamic principles, they treated the customers with Islamic compassion and friendship; they acted in a respectful manner towards non-Muslims; Such behavior caused the local people to become interested in Islam and that’s a great example of promoting Islam by adhering to its teachings and moralities in action.”
Advising the Argentine Muslims, Ayatollah Makarem added, “Try your best to treat your fellow citizens in Argentina in a respectful manner; It’s forbidden in Islam to insult other religions’ sanctities.”
“Once, an American politician said, ‘There comes a day when people wake up by the sound of Adhan (Muslim call for prayer)’; this quote indicates the fast pace of Islam’s growth around the world,” the cleric concluded.
